How does Levest work?

Like all oral contraceptives, Levest has three levels of contraceptive effects which work together to prevent pregnancy

  • In simple terms, Levest stops the monthly release of an egg by the ovaries.
  • Levest changes the mucus that is produced by your cervix making it firmer and more sticky; sperm are blocked from entering the womb as they find it harder to get through this ‘mucus plug’.
  • Levest helps prevent the wall of your womb from thickening, so that it is more difficult for a fertilised egg to become implanted and result in a pregnancy.
